Price range: Money seems very important when choosing bubbles to drink, I think this is not necessarily the case. Drink what you enjoy, don’t be dictated by cost. In saying that, it is thought that the more expensive the fall, the finer the bubble beads are which is a sign of high quality champagne.
I’ve tried some extremely expensive champagnes and not enjoyed them all, while one of my favourites is below $50. Do you feel a enthusiast should try bubbles across the price range? I do.
Opening time: I believe champagne shouldn’t be open for more than 24 hours. Using something such as a champagne saver will help keep the bubbles more, if only for a couple of days. I suggest it’s best to open a jar on a Friday night and spread it on the weekend. Or better yet, have some girlfriends over on Saturday afternoon and open a few bottles for the day.
The biggest problem you may have is heat, which will permit you to be dehydrated, giving you a headache. Avoid drinking at the spa, on the edge of the pool or on the vessel when in sunlight.
Serving temperature: Generally, the rule is to serve champagne at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. When from the hot weather of the paradise that we live in, I believe we can afford to go down a few degrees.
Is Champagne from France: Technically it’s. There are a number of rules to be followed to be considered: a secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottles to create carbonation, there are explicit vineyard practices, sourcing of the blossoms and special pressing regimes. While this looks like a lot to worry about, you do not need to! Someone else does. They follow the traditions to deliver to us the beauty of the product that just an enthusiast may like.
I challenge you to become an enthusiast in something and let us know what that is so that we may learn from you.
What’s the best way to learn about champagne? Proceed to your local specialist and have a chat, join a champagne tasting class or take home some bottles and enjoy them with friends or loved ones. Cheers.
The Romans understood terroir and were very cautious about where they planted vines. Before the Romans, the Etruscans lived in what is now called Italy and they made wine from wild grapes. It appears that there was an abundance of them in the Mediterranean region.
Roman wine production was heavily influenced by both the Etruscans and the ancient Greeks.
After harvesting the grapes, individuals would trample on them This might not have been hygienic, but it was the best way the Romans understood to press wine. After the trampling, the wine was transported to be pressed in a torculum or wine media. The grape juice has been strained to get rid of the grape skins and seeds.
The next stage in the production process was to move the liquid into the enormous jars or amphorae in which it could ferment. Occasionally these vessels were buried in soil, sand, or water. Sometimes these juices were boiled prior to storing them in these vessels.
If the end result was to produce a high quality vintage wine, the wine could stay in the vessels for between 10 and 25 years.
But, wine was usually left for between 9 days and a few months. This was Roman plonk!
Pliny the Elder wrote about the Roman way of producing wine and growing vines in his work,’Historia Naturalis’ translated as Natural History. He wrote that Italian wine has been the very best in the world, or at least in the known world.
However, the Romans and their compatriots cornered the wine market, disallowing other competitors from other countries beyond what is now called Italy. So other nations like France, Spain and Portugal were not allowed, officially, to produce wine.
According to Pliny, by the middle of the second century BC, wine was an important commodity. However, as the Roman Empire grew, the export value of wine could diminish, as grapes were cultivated in other parts of the empire, notably in what is now France and the Iberian peninsula.
The Romans drank wine at any time of night and day, but it was diluted with water since it was stronger than wines of today.
Wine production continued, but it fell out of favour until the Renaissance, when there was a revival of interest in classical culture.
So wine from the Roman Empire had its ups and downs, but luckily, the artwork of wine-making survived.
Christopher Columbus was aware of the existing rivalry between the European kingdoms for trade routes to the East Indies and the spice trade. He thought he could reach the East Indies by sailing westward. He made several proposals to European monarchs and the expedition was funded by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain.
Columbus found the New World. He sailed around the beautiful islands of the Caribbean, convinced that he’d found the East Indies. He claimed it all to the Crown of Castile and called the people Indians. He began a chain of events which would affect the world’s history for the next 500 years and more.
Puerto Plata, the city on this beautiful lush island where we had an unforgettable holiday was initially founded in April of 1493, and the settlement was known as La Isabella.
The Dominican Republic is an exotic isle of green foliage in the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The trade winds blow the sultry warm air that carries the music of this magical Meringue and the odor of their uniquely divine and fascinating cuisine
It is a favorite vacation Mecca that has grown exponentially in the last twenty years or so. Santo Domingo is the capital city of the Dominican Republic and the population at the time of our visit was over 5 million. We also visited a few villages close to Puerto Plata where we’ve met some of the kindest and happiest people.
Two days per week the resort chef did a sea food cook outside on the shore. The beach was set up with plastic tables and chairs. Lobsters floated in an ice bucket next to the enormous grill. A second bucket was filled with countless bottles of beer coated with ice.
Puerto Plata’s property development was on steroids in this time and we planned to check it out in the morning prior to the BBQ. We met a real estate agent who had been marketing a large condominium development. We spent so much time with the agent that by the time we got to the hotel the lobster grilling was finished. I was so disappointed I could have cried.
Luckily for me, I had yet another chance to have lunch in the grilling before we had to leave. I made the most of the lunch. I was the first to book a table for the two of us. Covered with sun tan oil and wearing a large hat, we sat at the table, feet in the sand, sipping a bottle of cold Dominican beer and inhaling the mouth-watering aromas blowing in the grill.
I was sitting on a seat, my feet dug in the hot sand, a plastic table in front of me covered with a paper tablecloth. The waiter served me a huge lobster, ready to eat, followed by a bowl of steaming hot butter flavoured with herbs and garlic.
I had been waiting for this… shells cracked, tossed all around the table, my hands and face covered with warm garlic butter… loving my food – it was awesome! I was like a mischievous kid, happy to make a huge mess and enjoying myself!
It was great to be a child again if only for a short time. Try it. I recommend it!
This was the most sensuous meal I’ve ever had. Can’t you just see?
Dreams come in all shapes and sizes and this was a happy dream come true for me! Columbus had a great dream and it came true for him in more ways than he ever dreamed of.
The Hamburg steak as it was called in the 1800’s was served to the voyages from Germany to the United States. The meat patties were quickly cooked and served on two pieces of bread. To attract many of the sailors and European people to their eating stands vendors. They would offer the Hamburg style steak on the menu.
With Hamburg steak firmly embedded the American culture in the late 1800’s claims of how it served in the modern standard is based on Congress girl Rosa DeLaurao.
This is a contested fact. We’ll provide you a few more names and areas of the Hamburger in the United States.
Fletcher Davis of Athers Texas sold burgers from the cafe in the late 1800’s before taking them into the World’s Fair in 1904.
Frank and Charles Menches seller at a county fair ran from their sausage sandwiches and began using beef instead. It was recorded this happened in 1892 in the Summit County Fair in Akron Ohio.
In 1885 Charles Nagreen now called hamburger Charlie who made sandwiches which were easy to eat while walking at the Seymour Fair that he was only 15 years old at the time.
Evidence that Oscar Bilby in 1891 was the first to serve the Hamburger on a bun in Tulsa Oklahoma. In 1995 Governor Frank Keating proclaimed that the first true hamburger on a bun was made and consumed in Tulsa Oklahoma.
With 40 billion served up in america alone has truly become America’s favorite sandwich. It might not have ever happened because in 1906 Upton Sinclair’s Journalistic novel”The Jungle” detailed the unsavory parts of the meat packing industry in the usa. Ground beef became subject to much scrutiny since it was easy to add meat scraps, additives and fillers
It became the lead way for the fast food hamburger success. The White Castle restaurants gleamed with cleanliness bringing the hamburger standing along with it.
The combinations which come with the hamburger are endless with ideas being generated without end. Lots of you have your own favorite recipe for the beans of your choice.
So the next time you pull into your favorite fast food restaurant, fire up the grill or put one on the George Forman grill you’ll know a little of the evolution on the Hamburger.
That is some fantastic information about ground beef and the way our food always has a little history behind it.
Do you want to enjoy the summer sunshine outside with the audience out in your garden rather than feeling lonely in your kitchen? Do you want to enjoy the nighttime breeze and cook as well? Are you planning a typical barbecue party? Grill smoker combo is the best choice to enjoy; without missing the spirit of the party.
This combo is the combination of both grill and smoker which lets you choose the type of flavor we need within an instance, said as the best option for last minute planners. These are the best options for those who do not have the luxury of money and space to enjoy another smoker and grill.
You will find grill smoker combos heated via charcoal which is hard to clean up but are cost-effective. Electrical grill smoker combos are less cluttered but pricey compared to charcoal heated ones.
The meat is smoked in a long and horizontal chamber which is placed alongside the heat source rather than above it. This design makes it easier for the griller to maintain heat without moving the food from the grill to add coal or any fuel. The firebox put in the combo feeds smoke into the chamber that provides the meat its flavor, tenderness and crispy outer layer.
With a combo is more complicated and needs practice. There are certain basic tips to create a excellent flavored crispy recipe. It is simple to become an expert in using it by following these tips to perfection.
Most of the combos have an inbuilt thermometer which may be inaccurate since it measures the grill rather than the cooking chamber temperature. So it is better to use an excess thermometer to monitor the temperature in the cooking chamber and fuel is inserted handily. Coal is the best choice of fuel. Cold meat can give better flavor than meat at room temperature since it can absorb more smoke. This will let the meat stay juicy and absorb more smoke. Cooking with them can take time and need the patience to get the tastiest, juicy and tender meat.
Grill smoker combos can be used in lower temperature and for longer periods. This slower and longer cooking makes the food more soft, crispy and yummy.
The chips are in and the stakes are sexy. They should be, for in contention is one of the world’s most beloved cities-the emirate of Dubai. Just at the beginning of this week, Dubai World emerged from a first meeting with its creditors- asking them for a standstill on US$22 billion of its debt for at least six months. The truth is the whole affair was conducted under an atmosphere of strict secrecy and security, with attendees asked to be tight lipped about the proceedings. What has emerged is that the Dubai World executives formed a Committee to make a presentation for their situation in asking the moratorium. They were assisted by executives from Deloitte and other auditors. What is going to happen now is that the request will be considered in the light of this presentation and the recouping of the assets and liabilities, undoubtedly redrawn to show their ability to remain solvent even after the debt has been repaid.
What is amazing is that even this has not sent enough positive signals through the area. In the long run it just might be required to pay back the debt or part of it in order to block the negative sentiment that has echoed all through the world.
If that occurs, the next question is if Dubai will recover from its current crisis and will that recovery be for a short or a long term. Analysts are divided on the issue, but it’s apparent that Dubai’s Government will itself need to do something in this regard, rather than to wait for the discussion of market forces. It is understood that market forces are driven by consumer and business sentiment, and if that sentiment remains negative or there is uncertainty about future action, markets are going to see a loss of value. By first announcing that it would encourage the thing and later withdrawing its support, it caused mass confusion and in fact set in motion rumors that the emirate itself was in danger of defaulting because of overextending its plans from the boom period. Nothing could be farther from the truth as both Dubai World and the Government of Dubai are well equipped to take care of any financial emergency.
That said, in the short term the Government could assist companies in getting credit to complete the outstanding jobs. The current credit crunch means that new jobs are facing funding problems in getting their projects off the ground. Everyone in the construction industry knows that there is a considerable lag between the booking and the completion of projects. Secondly, by renewing the longer three year visa for employees, Dubai would signal it is prepared to take on expatriate workers again for the completion of old projects and starting new ones. As things are Dubai lodging sector is moving downhill, with lodging in Dubai becoming a buyer’s game. Except for Dubai marina flat, Dubai condos and Dubai villas- which has seen some consistency as well as appreciation in value, generally Dubai flat rent, Dubai Apartments, and Villas in Dubai have depreciated in value during the last few months. A further dip in the industry is expected by March-April 2010, after which the sector is anticipated to recover by 2011. But it’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen, and that is why the Government needs to take steps to see that Dubai is back on track again- the earlier the better. There is too much at stake.
After some time reviewing the Honduran constitutional crisis, I have chosen to test another example of a country where the constitution has generated controversy: Turkey. Although I think Turkey has turned out to be a success in bridging Islam and the West, I want to be clear that Turkey is not a country without its faults. Its refusal to accept responsibility for the Armenian genocide during World War 1 is deplorable. Also, Turkey’s suppression and tried forced assimilation of its Kurdish citizens and their civilization is inexcusable.
Notwithstanding these two issues, Turkey represents an Islamic country that’s a modern secular democracy, fully inclusive of woman’s political rights. Atatürk is the father of the nation and his legacy is still in full force now.
Turkey is incorporated with the west being a member of such organization as NATO, the G20 and the OECD. The country is a parliamentary representative democracy with three branches of government including, executive, legislative and independent judiciary. Turkey has good relations with the West, and is now also reaching out to other regions of the world. One interesting fact that distinguishes this country from the majority of the Islamic world is its relationship with Israel. Turkey was the first Muslim country to recognize the State of Israel in 1949 and is regarded as one of Israel’s closest allies both militarily and strategically.
A significant controversy surrounding the Turkish democracy is that the army’s involvement in government. The Turkish army has taken on the role of the guardian of secularism and the constitution. The country’s current ruling party, the AKP, has been carefully treading towards a more Islamist stance. In reaction to the AKP’s politics, the military issued a statement in 2007 that made it clear it is still a power broker. The statement entailed that the army is going to be a party in all discussions over secularism and cautioned they are ready to perform their responsibilities to protect the characteristics of the Republic. This suggestion was annulled by the constitutional court and led to the AKP receiving a fine. During this deliberation, the constitutional court came within one vote of an all out closure of the AKP.
Although controversial, there are many people who claim this profoundly instituted secularism and contemporary approach has led in Turkey’s economic success, considered both a”developed” country and a regional power. This issue is divisive within the country, with many claiming that the present system of military enforced secularism is anti-democratic. If the country compromises on its secularism, could that be the first step towards a religious state? If so, is the current alternative not preferable to a model like the theocracy in Iran? At least under the present model democracy and personal freedom exist as long as religious based laws aren’t changed or instituted? On a relative basis, even with its issues, is the Turkish system not preferable to many other people in the middle east? My hope is that these questions fuel constructive conversation around the search to improve coexistence among nations and religions of this world.
Two years before in West Berlin, then President Ronald Reagan stated in a speech,”General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate. More than two more years after this speech, the Berlin Wall will be no longer.
The Inglorious History of the “Iron Curtain”
On August 13, 1961 barbed wire fencing is built along with concrete barriers and the border between East and West Berlin is shut. The Berlin Wall ultimately became a 96-mile long barrier positioned around West Berlin. Just two days later, the first recorded violation is tried as 19-year-old border guard Conrad Schumann successfully escapes to West Germany. Gunter Litfin a young tailor’s apprentice is the first man to be shot and killed in an escape attempt on August 24, 1961. During the next years, over 10,000 people attempted escapes with about 5,000 of these succeeding.
In a speech presented at the Berlin Wall on June 26, 1962, President John F. Kennedy says,”There are several people in the world who really do not understand, or say they do not, what’s the greatest issue between the free world and the Communist world. Let them come to Berlin.” In this exact same speech he admits,”Ich bin ein Berliner” (I am a Berliner). Finally after months of lengthy negotiations, both sides reach an agreement that allow West Berliners to visit relatives in east Berlin. Three decades later, negotiations for more access between both sides of the town fail as East German officials order stricter control on the border and build additional sections to the wall.
In the seventies and eighties, many critical events occur that will finally bring an end to the Berlin Wall and Communism. In 1977, three teenagers are killed during a clash between protesters and East German police. Reform escalates throughout the seventies and culminate in an agreement between the Communist government and striking shipyard workers in Poland. The attack is directed by Lech Walesa who helps to cause the formation of trade unions, finally resulting in the anti-Communist Solidarity movement.
In early 1989, the last remaining sections of the”Iron Curtain” are dismantled as Hungary disables their electrical alarm system, cuts through the barbed wire on the Hungarian-Austrian border, and eventually reopens the border with East Germany. Three months later, 13,000 East Germans escape to the West through Austria. East Germany’s leader, Erich Honecker is forced from office just 38 days later. Five days after the Berlin Wall came down.
On December 3, 1989, George H.W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev run a shipboard summit at Malta. Afterward, in the press conference, Soviet spokesman Gennady Gerasimov says,”From Yalta to Malta, the cold war ended at 12:45 p.m. today.” In the next years, Communists in Prague step down, Hungary elects a non-Communist government, Germany unifies, Lech Walesa is elected president in Poland, and the Soviet Union dissolves. Due to the events and efforts of so many people dedicated to liberty, the Berlin Wall is no more and millions are now able to live free.
We can expect new President Obama to lift the absurd ban on Cuba, or at least make the attempt through Congress. He will surely allow Americans to fly to that abused island and bring some relief from the oppressive communist regime. The island”celebrated” 50 years of Fidel’s take over without fanfare from the majority of the populace. Their political and economic conditions have remained fixed in time during that half century as if a gigantic time machine had remained stuck in 1959.
While nobody in Cuba dies of hunger and almost everybody can read and write (their literacy rate is among the highest in the world), an individual can easily ask”what for?” There is not any freedom of any kind except to laud the virtues of this fantastic leader, or, as it’s called in another dictatorship, our Beloved Great Leader (North Korea). Cuba and North Korea are two examples of massive brainwashing, although much more so in China’s neighbor. Cuba has the”luck” of having the United States next door, and the superpower’s influence, notwithstanding the blockade, has been the difference among the populace. Cubans still retain some contact with the mainland, whether clandestinely or through American family members.
While working in Mexico, I had the opportunity to talk to Cubans residing in that country; some had to come back to the island, while some had migrated permanently. A surgeon told me that her monthly salary was the equivalent of $30, but she added that everyone received free education (considered one of the best the world), and that the food was heavily subsidized, as was rent (no private property permitted ), and healthcare. I could perceive an undertone of deep dissatisfaction in their comments regarding the total lack of freedoms and choices. The surgeon talked about the first time she entered a grocery store in Monterrey, Mexico; her eyes widened with shock. She had never seen so many products and so many choices on the shelves.
Very few Cubans have their own landline phone (9 percent ) and even less have a cell phone (1%). Although many have televisions (70 percent ), who wants to listen to Fidel’s endless tirades (he loved to listen to himself when he was still in control) of up to 3 hours? Who wants to see the official government’s propaganda machine? Just a few revolutionary diehards still support the communist regime and the”exalted” memory of the Che Guevara, a psychotic physician who shot anyone who disagreed with him.
China, the giant communist regime, had the wisdom to transform its totalitarian dogmas to permit some token of capitalistic industry. Cuba is only starting to know, under Fidel’s brother’s control, that people have an innate drive to have something. Raul Castro has even invited the Cuban people to voice their criticism of the government, a step that received very little response as individuals doubt seriously that the regime could really act upon the recommendations.
The lack of opportunities in Cuba is very hard on youth. The island has among the highest suicide rates in the world. Again, what’s the point of getting free education all the way to school if the government tells you what to research and if there are no outlets for your skills? The word apathetic is the adjective most commonly heard when talking of young Cubans. Regardless of occasional desertions among athletic teams who travel to other countries, most young Cubans do not need to abandon their island. What they want is more freedom to come and go as they please and to have the opportunity to voice their concerns.
President Obama has already expressed his desire to initiate discussions with the Cuban authorities. He must ignore the extreme faction of Cuban-Americans from Miami who want no contact with the Caribbean island. The ridiculous blockade ought to be eliminated for two important reasons: Cubans already get American goods through third parties (European countries), and an open trade with Cuba are the best way to topple that odious dictatorship.
I’ve known about Fascism for quite some time. Fortunately, Albright answered all the questions for me including her caution about the implications of Fascism for our future.
She described it as a form of authoritarian rule including total control by the leader of a nation, appeal to ultranationalism, and electricity being based in the leader rather than lying with the citizens. She described Mussolini as taking large amounts of money from corporations and banks while feigning concern about the working class. He put on a show for people, dispersed and sold personal products under his name, was a good politician but had very little comprehension of diplomacy, rejected input from his advisors and saw his own judgment as the only correct one. She described Hitler as answering questions with lies intended to reassure people, believing and saying that being a Barbarian was honorable, eliminating civil servants he saw as not true, taking charge of the arts and journalism, using mass media (radio in those days) to catch attention of the masses and making persecution of people who couldn’t defend themselves seem like national self defense.
Albright also discussed the nature and exploits of a variety of other Fascist leaning leaders such as Chavez, Erdogan, Putin, and the Kim dynasty. Last but not least comes Trump who has revealed the majority of the features and antics previously used by Mussolini and Hitler. Trump accepts bullying, autocracy and civil rights violations by autocratic leaders without comment. He seems more comfortable with them than with our traditional allies with whom he tends to pick fights.
Albright sees Fascists and Fascist leaning leaders as invoking”America (or any other country) First” as a way of justifying their inclination to do anything they please. They feel entitled to do what they want for no legitimate reason or simply make one up with no foundation. She sees their unpredictability as a personality trait rather than as a way to accomplish anything productive.
How do they gain power? Fascist leaders appeal emotionally to people who feel disenfranchised from what they feel is owed them or people who feel afraid of the others, often cultural or political groups differing from theirs. Though this fervor is fanned by social media, it existed long before computers and spread through personal appearances and the use of more traditional media.
What can we do? We can learn to ask pointed questions of those who claim to be acting in our best interest. We also have to reconnect with one another, understand each other’s fears and sense of loss as well as starting to work together as individuals and society to address these concerns. After we ask them the right questions, we can elect leaders who will act responsibly.
I strongly recommend this book as a way to understand the actual challenges which face us and to help us learn to listen to each other to find mutually acceptable ways of approaching our struggles.
When you envision a guinea pig, you probably picture the typical short-haired American guinea pig. But what about those with curly or long hair? Many people would probably just assume that their owners let them grow their hair out, but that’s certainly not true. There are actually several breeds of domesticated guinea pigs in the world. However, I will be going through the most popular ones now, which you can find at your neighborhood pet store.
Probably one of the most common long-haired pig, the Abyssinian is a fantastic pet to have. This strain has swirls, which actually make them ideal as a show pig. And yes, there are contests for guinea pigs.
But because of the nature of the Abyssinian’s hair, this type of guinea pig is somewhat harder to look after. I would not suggest this for a child, unless someone more accountable is prepared to take on the responsibilities of grooming.
This is the most common strain of them all, at least in North America. Hence, the name”American.” However, the biggest reason why the American is the most popular one is not because it’s extra cuddly or cute. It’s because it’s the easiest one to look after, making them perfect for little children.
But if you have plenty of time to dedicate to a pet, I’d suggest something more rare, like the Abyssinian.
This specific breed is like the Abyssinian. However, the one major difference is that it has long straight hair rather than long curly hair. Of all of the various guinea pig breeds, the Peruvian appears to have the longest hair.
And like with any long-haired guinea pig, the Peruvian requires some time for grooming. Combing the right hair is recommended daily to stop any tangles, which might lead to discomfort to your pet.
Also called the Sheltie, The Silkie guinea pig is similar to the Peruvian. The main difference is the hair around the area of the head. The Silkie has it’s head hair slicked back. The hair of the Silkie can be much softer than that of any other strains, which makes them great for entertaining small children.
But of course I wouldn’t suggest this for a child to look after. Make sure there is a responsible person handling all of the grooming required to maintain a healthy Silkie.
The Teddy guinea pig really looks like a stuffed animal, probably because of it is dense and short coat which you would see on a teddy bear. They don’t have hair as soft and smooth as the Silkie, but they make great pets for children to take care of.
A unique feature found in just the Teddy is the”upturned nose,” making them resemble a stuffed animal even more.
Unlike other strains of long-lived pigs, the Texel has long curly hair all throughout the body. This means, curly hair is evident on their backs and their bellies, which make them popular for owners who wish to display their pet at contests.
Once again, I would only suggest that for responsible adults, and specifically owners who would like to showcase their guinea pig.
The White Crested
Perhaps the easiest to spot out, the White Crested includes a white spot on top of the head. It looks like a white crown, thus the name. Aside from the specific mark, this strain is extremely much like the American. They are essentially American guinea pigs with a hint of creativity.
The brief hair requires minimal grooming and make them a favorite choice among children.
Boa constrictors are nonpoisonous snakes endemic to Central and South America. They are extremely large, with males measuring 6 to 8 feet and females measuring 8 to 10 feed. In the wild their diet is made up of amphibians, birds, lizards, small mammals and other snakes.
There are several factors to take into consideration when feeding boa constrictors in captivity.
The size of your boa will determine type and size of prey it can absorb. Young boas should eat baby or small young rats, or rabbits, whereas full-grown boas can consume large rats, little chickens and compact rabbits that are frozen specifically for the purpose of feeding wildlife in captivity. Make sure that the size of the prey is no larger than the widest point of the boa’s midsection.
Never feed your boa live food as it might cause your snake to become competitive. In addition, the prey may escape or harm your boa. Never feed your snake wild animals. Wild animals may carry bacteria or parasites. Simply feed your snake prey that were raised in sterile surroundings and fed organic diets that guarantee your pet won’t get contaminated with bacteria or parasites.
Prey animals are frozen when you receive them. Make sure that the prey is thawed out and slightly warm (can use boiling water). Dangle the prey in front of the snake with tongs. Ensure that you wash your hands after feeding your boa. To keep your boa from accidentally consuming substrate from its habitat, it is recommended that you move your boa into a different container when feeding.
Young boas can be fed pinkies (baby mice) once weekly. Large boas (6 months old and older) can graduate to pre-killed adult mice, rats, chicks and finally rabbits (1-2 times a month.) Remember don’t feed prey that is larger than the widest part of the snake.
The size of the prey is obviously important, but the frequency of feeding is equally important. You have to present your boa enough time to properly digest each meal before attempting to feed it again. Wait until 2-3 days after the snake defecate before offering another meal. This works out to a feeding schedule to each 7 to 12 days.
Proper feeding your boa constrictor is very important. Only feed prey that’s from a company who sells prey animals for reptiles in captivity. Remember, make sure not to feed prey that is too big for your snake as it might choke.
For many pet owners, this is also the time when our dogs and cats can’t stop scratching! Before going changing your pet’s diet or exercising for expensive supplements, you should think about when the irritation began. These summer months are a parasite’s paradise! The mid to late summer months are the height of flea season that may be a itchy scratchy nightmare for the cats and dogs with a flea allergy. Gremlin went through this, so I’ve been there! Here’s the way to tell if that’s what’s happening.
Flea allergy dermatitis is the most common allergy in dogs over a year old with symptoms flaring in mid to late summer. The allergy is not to the fleas themselves, but their spit. This means the itchy reaction can occur after only one bite and may persist long after the flea is gone.
If you see your dog scratching, licking, and chewing at the base of the tail, haunches, under their legs, buttocks, and stomach, they may be experiencing a flea allergy. The chewing can cause dry scaly patches of skin and if left untreated can result in open sores that are prone to infection. Some dogs may even have red bumps in the affected regions.
Flea Allergy Dermatitis In Cats
Just like dogs, many cats can be allergic to flea saliva. Cats have a similar scratching, licking, and chewing pattern as puppies and can develop a rash of small round lumps, called feline military dermatitis (because of their similarity to millet seeds) within their back, neck, and face.
Even With a Monthly Preventative
You may think that your pet’s protected against fleas because of your stringent monthly preventative schedule, but not every preventative is created equally. There are many preventatives both over the counter and prescription. Many over the counter methods take days and a few even require the fleas to bite before killing them and since this is an allergy to their saliva, this just will not do.
Prescription methods are your best bet, but even there you will realize that some are better than others. Some work faster than others. As an example, according to Elanco, the makers of Comfortis, Comfortis starts killing fleas within 30 minutes of administration with an effective rate of 98-100% over four hours. Nexgard, the most popular preventative now, needs 24 hours to kill 100% of fleas.
Besides speed, you and your veterinarian should consider how the preventative targets fleas. The active ingredient in Comfortis (and one of these in Trifexis, also an Elanco brand) is Spinosad. This drug attacks the nervous system of the flea. Nexgard uses the ingredient, afoxolaner, which over-stimulates the nervous system of fleas. Sentinel, a fresh Gremlin knows and loves, uses lufenuron, which acts as a development inhibitor, killing fleas in the egg and larvae stage. Sentinel’s belief is that if there are no baby fleas growing up to be blood-sucking adult fleas, there will not be a flea issue.
A Combination of Treatments
When you talk about treatment with your veterinarian, ask about a combination of treatments. In New Orleans, where the flea population is radically out of control, our veterinarian (who I also worked for) advocated a Comfortis/Sentinel combo. This combination kills adult fleas on your dog and controls any creatures they pick up out and about. I strongly recommend asking your vet about this whenever you can if your dog is fighting this summer.
Treating Your Home
You are not done yet. Fleas are tiny and their eggs are even tinier. You absolutely need to treat your house and yard if you are going to truly have an influence on your own flea population.
For this, I urge Fleabusters. It’s far easier than you may think to use and not at all toxic to your loved ones. Fleabusters is a borate powder that doesn’t poison or attack anything. It’s really a desiccant, meaning it dehydrates it’s victims to death. And it does so very effectively.
The application process is pretty easy. It’s a very fine powder which you spread around your flooring and yard (especially damp and shady areas). You will want to use a broom or foxtail brush to spread it around your flooring surfaces. You can vacuum and sweep normally because it has a static property which helps it cling to any surface. After using this powder, you will find more than your flea population diminishing! This stuff works on many household pests! We’re big fans!
A Tricky Problem Many times there will not be signs of fleas due to the preventative you’re giving, in which case you may be given a special diet or supplement.
For example, when the biting and itching didn’t resolve itself after drugs and supplements it was recommended to us that Gremlin start a drastic and lifelong steroid program! If your cat or dog is more than a year old and has been fine with their diet apparently until today, then you need to bring up what you’ve read here!
Consider how few factors have changed on your dog’s life and make that a point. Should you end up with a new diet or supplement that does not do the trick, consider a second opinion.
Nobody, truly, wins, as a result of any government shutdown. Nevertheless, we’ve witnessed, three of them, in the last calendar year, or so. If there’s absolutely no legitimate benefit, why does this continue to happen? Is it due to strong principles, being fought for? Is it based on the requirement, for a particular policy and/ or policies, or the belief, one is fighting, for what is needed and necessary? Or, is this, simply another case of politics and partisanship, in addition to an individual or individual’s personal/ political agenda, and self – interest, often at the expense of doing what’s in the best interests of the majority of citizens, or the so – called, common good? What ever happened to a willingness, to seek a compromise, or accommodation, through win – win negotiations, with an attempt to get around these wasteful, ineffective, inefficient, temper tantrums, and generating a meeting – of – the – minds, which truly serves the public’s best interests? With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, consider, review and discuss, why we’re being manipulated by our elected officials, rather than being represented and served.
1) is that a matter of principle? Does anybody, really, believe, this partial government shutdown, is a matter of principle? Doing this, has closed certain national parks, museums, facilities, rest rooms, and related maintenance, yet this folly, has seemingly, overlooked, serving the public. Since the great majority of security experts, state, this Wall is inefficient and ineffective, too costly, and does not offer security, why is Mr. Trump, which makes such a major issue, over it? Could this be, about his campaign promise, as he states, to build this Wall, and, thus, fulfilling his core fans? Buteven if that were the case, the Wall, he promised, was presumed to be compensated for, by Mexico, while this conflict, is about taxpayer funding, for this symbol!
2) Policy: Past shutdowns have inconvenienced many, price much confusion, expenses, and displeasures, and haven’t served the best interests of the nation, or its own citizens! As a matter of policy, forcing a shutdown, has never made, much sense! Just like, when feuding countries, are speaking, they rarely fight wars, would not it make more sense, to seek a meeting – of – the – minds, rather?
Before, shutdowns stopped because politicians realized, it was more valuable, to end them, but with the uncharacteristic, erratic behaviour, of President Donald Trump, you might not understand, exactly what the future, will bring?
Wake – up, America, and require legislation, which make punitive fines/ penalties, whenever they’re unwilling to behave more responsibly, and permit any kind of shutdown. When public workers, government contractors, vacationers, etc, are punished, and no one benefits, because of the equivalent of a temper tantrum, then, proclaim, you have had enough!
Potatoes are full of energy and have a tasty starchy taste. It’s a favourite starch side dish for the cook of any household. But, you will eventually get bored of the same method so why not try something new and just as delicious?
Potatoes are by far the tastiest when they’re made into chips. Why? Not only do they get a crispy addictive taste but they are the easiest to make and eat. This would be the favourite for the family.
Baked potatoes take a little longer to cook but are worth the wait. You could also decide on different cuts for the potatoes. Wedges are the best because the outside will be crispy and full of flavour when spices are added, and the interior will be soft and hot.
You could also drop a couple of potatoes into your stews, curries and broths. The starch is also quite useful if you accidentally place a bit too much salt to the sauce. Because potatoes are bland they soak up any extra salt that is not needed.
Have you ever tried to make Gnocchi? It’s a good thing they’re easy to make. Firstly, you have to boil potatoes in water until fully cooked and soft. Mash them and then mix the mash with eggs and flour. Once you have this step completed you can roll little balls of the dough mix over a fork and there’s your professional Gnocchi.
Mashed potato is a lovely side dish to get. The creamy goodness complements any major meal as it doesn’t have such a prominent taste. After boiling and mashing them, you will need to put the mash to a pot and add milk, nutmeg and salt.
Stuff them. You can put cheese, mushrooms, beans or anything you love inside a baked potato. It becomes an entire meal on its own because of all the other minerals and proteins used to make the dish.
Before eating or cooking with potatoes you have to remember to wash them properly. Because they contain as much starch, it may drastically change the flavour you planned for your dishes. Soak them in water once you peel them and it will get rid of any unwanted starch.
To prepare them for preparation you can distribute cooking oil over the base of the pan or baking tray you will be using. This helps prevent burning and sticking and, ultimately, scrubbing those pans.
